Family Yoga
Family yoga is a fun activity that works for children of all ages. It helps bring confidence, balance, calmness and a sense of self. In yoga you bring attention to your breath, not only learning breath awareness but learning how to slow down and bring yourself into the present moment. This allows you to create more peace, calm, compassion, clarity, patience and love in your day to day life, which in turn has a ripple effect impacting everyone around you.
Finding the connection between your body and breath lays valuable foundations which you can carry forward into all areas of your life.
Yoga gives beneficial tools for use in all areas of life and fun interactive family yoga classes allow you to connect with yourself and each other. Family yoga combines breath work, yoga poses, mindful movement, games, songs, stories, visualisation, imagination, meditation and relaxation. It improves flexibility, strength, posture, alignment, focus concentration and calmness as well as being fun and creating a bond and understanding between parent and child.

Children’s yoga is particularly relevant with many well-known benefits. These include encouraging movement in children, improving their co-ordination and balance, encouraging team work and collaboration, and teaching self-calming techniques such as meditation and breathing. Therefore it’s not surprising that mindfulness is being added to the cirriculum.
Yoga and meditation really support the wellbeing of each child in addition to having a wider impact in the school’s that introduce it. Beneficial effects have been seen in the children’s overall behaviour and their ability to focus throughout the day.
The three main values I focus on through my teaching are love, kindness and respect. These themes help teach the children about growing and nurturing relationships with others as well as themselves.
Bringing in an external yoga teacher, provides children with an alternative learning experience. This allows them to engage in the present moment and detach from their usual everyday distractions, encouraging each child to shine and know that they are enough.
A Parent’s point of view…
We have been thrilled with our boy’s progress in yoga. He struggles with behaviour and had difficulty with self control. Since starting yoga with Zophanie he has learnt lots of different coping mechanisms. He tells us in the car that he needs quiet for his meditation and sits concentrating for ten minutes at a time. He is much better now at understanding how to control his emotions and breathes in and out to regulate his mind.
Thank you Zophanie, it’s a winning formula, he enjoys his time with you and I can see he values you and the positive way that you see him.
My daughter loves her yoga class with Zophanie, she looks forward to it each week. She is always excited to tell us and show us what she has done in class, and it has helped her confidence being with different aged children.
